Make a list. A list of five people who really influenced your life. Who would they be?
I've heard it said that if you tell someone the five people you spend most of your time with, they can predict your future by how those five people live. Our immediate reaction is "no way", but then if you drop back and think about it, it's kinda true. If I spend all my time around guys who play golf, all of a sudden I'll be interested in golf (or whatever the thing may be).
Good teams tend to attract good athletes. Good companies tend to attract talented employees. Of course the opposite is also true. With this knowledge, what if we're one of the five in someone else's circle. How is our influence? Our mentorship?
I'm in a time of life that is both amazingly wonderful and somewhat scary. I see my kids not as kids anymore. I see my grandkids growing. I see my and Amy's parents getting older. I see me also getting (just a little) older. What happens next? I've always been fixated on the "next" thing for some reason.
Are we passing on the right stuff? Have we dug our well deep enough? (You can improve every aspect on your life on six words .. ask me tomorrow what they are). Are we the mentor we need to be?
I wanted to discuss the Urim and the Thummim, just because they are cool words to say when I ran across this study instead. In Numbers 27:12-23 we see Moses and Joshua at a pivotal point in their nations history. Let's study these verses out tomorrow.
