What an interesting word. There are several definitions. One is "your place of residence". Another is "a familiar or usual setting". The one I prefer is "one's place of origin". On a recent rip we did a little detour to see Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Amy and I spent a couple of years there. We really liked the place. In my thoughts back then, I imagined we would be there for a long time. We drove past the company where I had my first "grown up" job. It was closed, abandoned, weeds growing everywhere. It seemed like home at the time, but it just wasn't. Mt. Vernon has always been home. I'm looking out my office window as I write this, I see a fence, trees, and a big roll of hay on the ground. That's home to me.
I think about all the places I've been and all the things I've been blessed to see. I imagine all the things my kids and grandkids will experience and it can boggle the mind. But home is still a special place. I hope it is for them also.
I so enjoyed our Wednesday night study this week. We were in Genesis, chapter 1. Not talking so much about home as our relationship with God, but I love Genesis. I'd like to start tomorrow with a short chat about our homes (not the buildings but the places we've all been). Then, let's use these same verses (Gen CH 1) to discuss Adam and Eve's home.
Let's put on a pot of coffee and see what our "home" Church has for us.
See you tomorrow.
