Do you like bananas? I do. Actually I'm eating one right now. When I came in from work today and put my stuff on the counter (which is by the way a crime that can result in various forms of capital punishment in my household) I noticed the fruit bowl with over ripe bananas in it. Just how I like them! So I grabbed one and ran to the study to jot down this thought. Bananas are sweet, soft, full of fiber, nutrients and especially potassium. Potassium is required for our nerves to transmit signals back and forth. It's also vital to, well, every single living thing on the planet. So bananas are valuable. But just how valuable? For a couple of bucks, you can buy several in pretty much any store in the country. It made me think about our value as Christians.
In Nov 2024 a work of art sold at auction for 6.2 million dollars. That's a lot of cheddar as the young kids say! Do you know what this multimillion dollar work of art was? It was a banana that had been duct taped to a wall. Seriously. One banana, one piece of duct tape, stuck to a wall. The guy who bought it wrote a check, walked over to the "art", pulled off the duct tape, pealed the banana and ate it. I wonder if he left a tip?
Do you value this Christian walk you're walking? Do you consider the impact you are having on your family? Your co-workers? That guy holding a sign on the corner? Does anyone even notice the "lifegiving nutrients" they get from your mission on this earth? Is your Christian walk as "essential" as a banana?
I hope this makes you think "a bunch"!
And oh how I do like banana pudding.
