Have you ever looked at a cinderblock? It's really just a lot of tiny little pieces of other things (rocks, sand, cement) all pressed together into a shape. I have a memory of being maybe 10 years old. Dad had a job to tear out old steps and build a new porch on the front of Big Rock Holiness Church. I remember taking the hammer and smashing the old blocks as we tore them out to make way for the new construction. I was small and it seemed like they crushed so easily when the hammer hit them. How can something so fragile support an entire building?
For me faith isn't something I really think about often. It's not like I am facing giants everyday or chained in a dungeon. Still it's something that as Christians we need to be constantly checking, adding to, building on.
This week, let's talk about a building. Especially about the foundation. Why it's so important and how we can make ours better. As you walk into the fellowship hall look to the left at the rocks supporting up our sanctuary. How long have they been there? Who placed each of them? How long will they stand?
For my verse, I want to use Hebrews 11:1. There's no single bible story to focus on, I hope we can share our own stories of faith and just have an open discussion about faith in today's world. I'll leave you a question to ponder, when is the best time to plant a tree? And the second best time?
See you tomorrow.
