Have you ever watched that show on TV "America's got talent?" The premise of the show is that people come and perform (sing, dance, magic tricks, whatever they like to do) and a panel of judges votes to keep them in the competition or rejects them, usually in dramatic fashion, and ends their chances of wining the prize. It's very visual, outgoing sometimes loud and dramatic. This is what sells TV ads and keeps viewers coming back. The thing is, the judges have to make the call, yes or no. There is no backup, no appeal, no second chance.
I've never stood before a judge, I don't actually think I've ever even been inside a actual courtroom. I imagine it could be very intimidating. But as with all things, a judge is necessary. We have many laws, but laws are sometimes vague and open to interpretation. So the judge makes the decision on who is in the right and who isn't.
The Israelites went thru a time of judges, then they had kings. Let's discuss this and see what we can find. Here are some things to research for our study:
When (and why) were the first judges?
How long were there judges?
What event(s) caused the Israelites to request a king and have no more judges?
What did Moses say about having a king?
Who were some of the judges?
Who is our judge?
See ya tomorrow .... I wonder if there will be any sweets .... that was a not so subliminal hint.
