As Americans, we don't really like rules. We think rules apply to everyone else but not use. We like to push boundaries. When you get pulled over for speeding do you thank the officer for keeping you safe or do you tell him "well everyone else is speeding so why am I getting a ticket".
I had an interesting week. I spent a few days where rules apply. And they don't just apply, they are enforced, to the letter, every second of every day. And they have to be. I was on perhaps one of the most secure locations in the nation. Don't miss my devotional or the start of our Sunday School to find out why!
Leviticus is a book we seldom use. We get a verse here and a verse there, but I think we miss the "reason" we have Leviticus. It must be important, it's right in the middle of the Pentateuch. It's the very next book after Exodus. It's the first thing God wanted the Israelites to know. But why? What does it mean? Do we look at it as a big list of rules that God has given us so he can punish us? Does that just mean we're spiritual adolescents that never grow up?
Let's back up to a 10,000 foot view as they as and just discuss why God gave the Israelites Leviticus. There's no way to cover all the chapters but flip thru and see what jumps out at you. Find a "law" that you lie (or don't like), something that should apply today that we don't keep to, something that seems odd or no longer used an let's discuss a few of them. I want to especially make sure we look at CH 10 verses 1-4.
See you tomorrow ... don't be late or you will miss the 72 oz. stake story!
